Geopolitics; Warfare and Grand Strategy; History; Theology; Philosophy; Literature; And More

It’s hard to conceive of another era in which mankind was so focused on its own destruction. This is true not only at the macro level of culture and nation-states, but on an individual level as well. Suicide, depression, addiction, all of these have reached historic levels as man struggles to find meaning in an increasingly plastic world. All of these things grow out of the modern scientistic worldview.

Fr. Seraphim Rose once said that things “happening in the world today which we come across in our daily experience, every one of which has a philosophical undercurrent… even in turning away from them and not exposing ourselves to temptation as much as possible, we have to understand why they are that way, why, what is happening.”

The worldview of Modern Liberalism is that philosophical undercurrent moving and guiding world events. It attempts to replace God—and man’s relation to Him—with pseudo-science. But this has led not to man’s triumph, to the fantastical age of the Übermensch which our civilization was promised, but instead to the dehumanization of mankind and the desecration of the natural world. With the exception of computing power, every conceivable metric shows us that mankind is not progressing but regressing.

Where the Wasteland Ends is a slow and steady deconstruction of the modern scientistic worldview and the Brutalist mental architecture it has erected in the minds of men.

How do we accomplish this?

  • Analysis of current events through the lens of a proper Christian worldview

  • Challenging the presuppositions which underpin the modern worldview

  • Commentaries on the great men, achievements, and literature of the past

  • Developing a proper understanding of theological and philosophical concepts as a basis for discerning truth - to test the spirits of this age against the timeless Wisdom of God.

I myself am an Orthodox Christian and this will certainly factor a great deal into my view of the world, and while I will at times speak of Orthodox doctrine and spirituality, this is not an “Orthodox Substack.” Nor do I speak authoritatively for the Church. Any errors found, be they grammatical, doctrinal, philosophical, are my own. I ask the forgiveness of well-intentioned readers for any such errors which may appear; if one notices an error of some kind, please be so kind as to send me a direct message—my thanks in advance.

“And truly there is no happiness because they want to create it without Christ, and they are bitterly mistaken. Fragile is earthly happiness, and blessed is a man who does not chase after it but places his hope in Christ the Savior - he shall not be put to shame.” - Saint Barsanuphius of Optina
