Fascinating. I know this isn't the main point of your article, but is there an underlying supposition that in spite of the different details in each people's systems (names of gods, the details of the narratives, etc..) that they share certain metaphysical principles, over-arching narratives, depictions of beings, hierarchies, etc... because they are all operating in the same spiritual world essentially? By that I mean that the gods of the Hindus, Greeks, Babylonians, etc are actual beings and have actually relayed these accounts to man, and are in reality the fallen angels simply deceiving mankind?
Hey Tikhon, thanks for your comment! Correct. This doesn't come out so well in standard English translations based off the Masoretic, but in the Greek its explicit that after the destruction of the Tower of Babel, Angels (the sons of God) are appointed over the nations to guide them. These angels essentially fall by accepting worship or are subverted by fallen angels whom the people worship. Over time the truth of how they came to be where they were was twisted into the accounts we know today from pagan sacred texts and stories. So they are all operating in the same spiritual reality, only listening to the wrong voices - all the gods of the nations are demons. This explains why cherub, seraph, giants, dragons, etc.. are commonplace across ancient cultures, and why they held such similar metaphysical and historical conceptions.
